Yanira Abreu

Yanira Abreu has over 20 years of experience coaching women's volleyball. She started her volleyball career in 1990 and went on to receive numerous accolades. Abreu is Johnson University Woman’s Volleyball Head Coach. In her first year at Johnson University in 2021, Abreu guided the team to Regionals and Nationals and a first ever Top 10 National ranking. Two of her players were All-Region first team, and All-American second team. One of her players leaded the nation in points and kills during her freshman year. For her efforts, she was named 2021 NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year. Abreu went to college at University of Puerto Rico to major in Management. While she was a student-athlete, Abreu was also playing with the renowned Professional LVSF league in Puerto Rico. After retiring, she went on to coach several club teams in PR. In 2010 Abreu moved to Miami, FL where she continued coaching and skill training young prospects. She has also been strongly passionate about the special needs community. Not only has she volunteered with the Down Syndrome Association of Miami, Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, but also coached children with special needs. Yanira is passionate about her faith, her family, and the game of volleyball. Along with an illustrious volleyball career, Yanira has raised three children: Her oldest son is playing college basketball at University of Saint Mary in Kansas. Her youngest son also plays basketball in High School and her 8-year-old daughter who was born with Down Syndrome is currently participating of the Special Olympics of Osceola County. Yanira is passionate about the health, wellbeing, and growth of student-athletes and has created not only a team, but a family in each of her coaching positions.
